Imaginary Friend Bloghop

Hosted by Annalisa and Kyra
I didn’t have an imaginary friend as in one that was invisible, but I had a doll who was my friend. Her name was Jennifer and she was my friend between the ages of 4 and 6.

Actually, there were two Jennifers. One was a blonde doll and the other was some all-white doll that looked like it came straight out of a mold. I can’t remember which one came first or what happened to the one that disappeared. No matter what she looked like, she was Jennifer.

Jennifer and I did so many things together and traveled to numerous places. I don’t remember all our exploits, but I know we had fun and exciting times. She even flew like a superhero.

Things with Jennifer weren’t always pleasant. For example, I was resentful of how other kids had much cooler toys, while my main toy was a doll. When I was 3 or 4, I threw many of my good toys out of our 3rd floor windows. It was after this that my parents slowed down their toy buying. It was cheap dolls for me. During moments of rage I threw Jennifer on the floor. She seemed to forgive me once we were back in fantasyland.

Jennifer proved beneficial to my overactive imagination. She was my friend. Thanks for hosting this, Annalisa and Kyra.

Did you have an imaginary friend?

I also had a doll who was my friend - she was called Zoe lol!

Thanks for being part of the bloghop! :D

Growing up I had both, an imaginary friend for a few years and two plush puppies tied together on rope. I think the puppies eventually replaced my imaginary friends...at least until I became a writer. (;

I don't recall if I had an imaginary friend or not, how sad. Sounds like Jennifer was important in your development.

I never had an imaginary friend. I played with toys but mostly read books. My son however has an imaginary baby jaguar. Said jaguar has to eat with us, go to the store with us. We had to make a spot for him in our family photos. I don't know if I should be worried or not.

I had a Tiny Tears doll called Jennifer. I do feel sorry for all the toys that got thrown out of the window - have you ever seen Toy Story? lol. Thanks for taking part :-)

I don't think I had imaginary friends, but I do remember my favorite doll, Tiny. She was bald from me carrying her around by the hair.

Yes! I even wrote a short story ebook called The Imaginary Friend, which is free on Amazon. My daughter has several imaginary friends. I think being an only child has something to do with that.

I don't remember any imaginary friends, but I do remember a Pippi Longstocking doll that I just loved.

You threw your toys out the window? You were one tough kid.

Jennifer sounds like a cutie. I never had an imaginary friend.

I know another girl who threw the dolls out of the window. That's a very pretty doll by the way.

Didn't have imaginary friends, but I played with Barbies all the time, so maybe they were my friends. :)

Sweet story! I had a teddy called George who was my constant companion. But I think he ended up falling apart!

I didn't have an imaginary friend, either. But I was big on my stuffed animals. They were 'real' to me, like real friends. I'd chat with them, and take them everywhere. I remember nighttime was a major pain for my parents. I had to pray and say goodnight to each of them. Took forever. Haha....

Sounds like you and Jennifer had a love/hate thing going on.

I was never big on dolls, I did have imaginary friends, but only resorted to playing with them when my older sisters ignored me. Which, fortunately, wasn't very often.

I had an imaginary friend named Janey and a friendly monster named Tiny Tune in my closet. Gosh, I'd forgotten about those two! Hahaha, how fun. :)

I hope you give acknowledgement to Jennifer in your next novel. She earned it, poor thing.

Carolyn V said...

Aw. That's cute! I had a doll too. Her hair could grow and wind back up. She was so cool.

Donna K. Weaver said...

I didn't. Unless you can count the monster who lived in my closet and scared me at night. =D

My friend was a stuffed dog I had who was much like your Jennifer. We went everywhere together, and I'm sure I threw him a few times too.
Cute post! :)

I've never had an imaginary friend, I've first heard about imaginary friends in American films :)

I threw a large portion of my toys out my bedroom, but that was because I was tired of cleaning my room, and toy pitching seemed faster.

It's nice that you have such good memories of your doll. And it's nice meeting you :)

That's really neat about Jennifer. I think it's good for kids to have imaginary friends.

I had imaginary worlds, imaginary boyfriends, and an imaginary twin sister. LOL!

Great story Medeia, and I didn't have an imaginary friend since I had my twin brother. My son however has an imaginary house with five dogs and a cat. Kids have great imaginations.

I loved hearing about your doll(s), and I'm glad Jennifer forgave you so quickly. I'd have trouble if I did this blog hop - I never had imaginary friends and don't honestly remember any of my toys. I had a knitted "blankie" I loved though - does that count? lol

Cute hop idea! I don't remember ever having an imaginary friend. I loved creating stories with my barbies though, so I remember that. :)

M Pax said...

Interesting that she could be a different doll. I loved dolls when I was little.

Jemi Fraser said...

I did - 3 actually, although the twins didn't hang around long :)

My imaginary friend was a horse I made out of a toy ironing board and hobby horse. This was the closest I came to owning a horse. :(

It only people could forgive us as quickly as dolls.

Aww, you reminded me of my doll! I loved her to bits. Think she's still hidden away somewhere in my parents' house...

I had a doll with pink hair that I used to make up stories for and act them out with my other little toys. Fun memories. Thanks for sharing this! :o)

I never had imaginary friends, but like you I had dolls who were my friends:) Such a great idea for a blogfest.

We also grew up with dolls as friends... and I still love teddy bears...
Seems like Jennifer was a very important part of your childhood.

DL Hammons said...

My dolls were those little green army men you fought imaginary battles with. My favorite was the one with the hand grenade! :)

Morgan said...

I can't believe you threw your toys out your 3rd story window! And those kinds of dolls always freaked me out, LOL ;D

Carol Kilgore said...

I may never have had another toy ever if I'd thrown mine out. I never had an imaginary friend. But when I was really little, a whole flock of tiny people lived in the backseat of my parents' car :)

Sounds like Jennifer was a good buddy. Kids are funny with names, when our dog had pups our daughter called each one Rosie. There were five Rosie's (including one boy) until they went to their new homes.

I didn't have an imaginary friend either. I had my sister. However, there was a red elephant named Ellie I got when I was 6 months old. Like your Jennifer she went everywhere with me and I told her everything. I still have her. Ellie the Red Elephant.

I had a Jennifer! Still have her. She was my first ever porcelain doll. Her hair is raggedy, her foot broken, her clothes aged, but I still have her. I'll give her to my daughter for her birthday in a couple years.

Jennifer sounds like she was a great imaginary friend. I don't remember having imaginary friends when I was a kid. I think I've made up for it now with all of the character voices in my head! LOL!

Susan Flett Swiderski said...

No imaginary friends for me, but I had a bunch of hand-me-down dolls. Some were missing limbs or eyes. Some had no hair, or were covered with stains. So I wrapped them up in bandages and played "hospital".

Ruth Schiffmann said...

I never had an imaginary friend. But I did always carry a notebook around with me, and write stories. So I guess I had imaginary worlds.

I think most of us had imaginary friends or dolls, special characters to talk to.

lbdiamond said...

How'd I miss this????

A stuffed rabbit and I had a lot of conversations. I had to stop talking to him when I turned 8. My sister just didn't understand how I could prefer Mr. Rabbit to her.

I had a pink kitty. She was my best bud and sleep companion. (I still have her! She sits in the rocking chair in my bedroom!)

hehe very cool!
I didn't have an imaginary friend - though I did make up a lot of stories that got me into a lot of trouble!
My 5 year old has several imaginary friends - and we are expected to talk to them like she does LOL

Dolls creeped me out even when I was young, but I did have several stuffed animals that got dragged around to take part in various adventures.
