I'm partaking in the Déjà Vu Blogfest, which is the brainchild of DL Hammons, Katie Mills, Lydia Kang, and Nicole Ducleroir. The whole idea is that as we're following and commenting to the best of our abilities, we miss many important blog posts. I know I've missed blog posts that were revealing, enlightening, and entertaining. For this blogfest participants are re-posting favorite posts or posts they believe should have received more exposure. My re-post is my first blog post. I had no idea what I was doing when I first got on Blogger. I had two previous blogs, but I was writing them more for me—without an audience in mind—and I didn't have a set schedule, blogging once in a while when the mood hit me. Therefore, my comments were disabled and I posted inconsistently with short, choppy posts.
When I had my first blogiversary, some people stopped by and commented on this first post, but otherwise it wasn't widely received. It's also a personal post in which I reveal a major writerly moment. I have a friend who says the rain is cleansing and symbolic, washing away the bad things and bringing in good things. Several times, during hard, heavy rains, something monumental has happened to me. Or maybe that's just in the imagination of me and my friend since we live in a rainy state. It's called the Sunshine State, but it rains quite a bit. Anyway, here's the post.

My Summer, August, 18, 2009

I had a bumpy summer, to say the least. The summer started with a flood. For several hours on June 5th, torrential rain and hail kept falling over Miami Beach. When I looked out the window I was shocked to see the streets immersed in water. I was then alarmed when my car wouldn’t start at first. And a week later my car completely died. I had to replace the computer and several other parts, so I was without my wet, moldy car for a few weeks (it took a long time to dry out). It's not a great feeling to be immobile when you rely on your car. Last Saturday was another rainy day to the extreme, and I worried that it would get just as bad as that June day, but it didn’t. The rain poured in around the same time that good news poured in. I just found out that I have an offer from a publisher. I can’t reveal much more since I don’t know all the details and it hasn’t been negotiated yet. So, the summer started off with a bang and ended well. The rain came and went away, I ended one day job to start another, enemies left and friendships became stronger, uncertainty turned into confidence, and bad things were balanced by the good. Overall, this is a summer that I’ll never forget.

I so remember this post (not the original but when you re-blogged it!). Amazing!! Take
care x
WOW!! That is a lot of rain. I guess I shouldn't be complaining about the showers that we've this week. :/
I'm lucky. I live on a hill (okay, that's not so lucky when it snows).
We had a flash flood this year and a guy got swept under his car and drowned. This was a first for my city, and it showed just how dangerous rain can be.
Hi Stina...its a lot of problem for people who get stuck in such rains. It reminds me of a city in India : Mumbai, that has such problems during the monsoons.
Wow! that;s a lot of water!
That sounds like quite an eventful summer! And those photos of the floods look pretty bad. But hey, you got an offer from a publisher as well!
Wow, it really was a summer you couldn't forget. Those pictures are surreal! Glad the rain brought more than just a moldy car. :)
I like this post. It started off bad, but ended great!
Unforgettable is right. I'm glad you could re-share this with us.
Thanks so much for joining the Blogfest!
I spent one summer in Florida years ago and admire your bravery. I guess in your case the cliche - when it rains, it pours - proved true back then!
It does sound like a memorable summer! But at least you had an offer from a publisher to put a bright side to things. :)
From flood to publisher - that was definitely an improvement.
Wow - that's a LOT of water!!! So glad the weather and everything else turned into an upswing! :)
I love the idea of the Deja Vu Blogfest. Wow, those pictures! I live by the Delaware River in PA and we see flooding more than we'd care to. Awful.
I had no idea Florida was such a rainy state! Sounds like you held up pretty well, though. I would have been totally freaking out! :-)
Talk about taking the bad with the good! It's so interesting seeing these blogging flashbacks and realizing how far some of us have come!
Thank you for taking part! :)
oh, I hate floods! I totally don't remember what I wrote in my first post to be honest :)
Wow, Medeia! I can't imagine being in a place where water causes that much damage! I can see where this would be an unforgettable summer.
A nice choice for a post to bring back, a bit different from your typical fare.
I didn't know that happened to you. I worked for a car insurance company, so I remember claims with water damage but I've never experienced that myself.
Glad it was a long time ago!
I can see why you reposted that one! What an awesome feeling to have something so good happen after going through that mess with your car!! It's the universe's way of balancing things out I suppose. :D
Medeia, That is some kind of rain. I'm from Florida. (The Keys) So I totally get this! It's a wonderful first post. Better than mine. Mine was mumbo jumbo and my crit partner, Beth Revis had to ask her followers to come by and comment. I was such a dummy then. *wink*
Hugs to you, Medeia! <3
Wow! Only a handful of people read my first post, but I don't think I'll link it.

We lived in Miami for a couple of years. I remember it raining so hard that everyone pulled off the expressways and stopped because we couldn't see.
I won't complain the next time our back yard floods. At least I can still get our car in and out of the driveway.
Wow....looks like our floods here in my country! Every February we have something like these.
Riya.
Holy cow! I've lived places there there's been tons of rain (Philippines). Serious yikes!
I didn't "know" you in 2008. I'm sorry you had such a rough summer. Water ruined my summer in 2010. :(
What rain and flood! Thanks for reposting this.
What a summer! Definitely unforgettable. :o) Thanks for sharing--I don't think I read it before now. What a long way you have come--now you have an awesome book out in the world!
Hugs!
Oh my goodness, I had no idea it could rain like that in Miami!
A memorable summer in more ways than one...
I remember you from Shelly's Crazy Alternate Reality Blogfest. Nice to connect again, Medeia!

Medeia - those pictures are CRAZY. Wow! It's amazing how some parts of the world burn up with wildfires while others are submerged in water. A little consistency, please, Mother Nature...
Nice articles. I'm just blogwalking and very happy to stop here. And also give you some comment and following your blog here.
Dont forget to give us some your comment into my blog and following me back too.
wow. That's a terrible start to the summer! But it sounds like your situation improved! Here's wishing you no more of that nonsense! :D <3
I never saw this post, but thanks for reposting it. That's how Brisbane looked this time last year.

That is quite a bit of rain, but what wonderful news along with it. The only kind of flooding we get around here is flash flooding, but it's high desert.
That is a summer you'll never forget! It is funny how life throws the good and bad at us sometimes.
Glad you survived that flood!
ow... That kind of rain I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I'm glad you focused on the good parts though. That's the best way to move forward.
Thanks for re-blogging an old post. It's refreshing to see that every blogger started slow, especially authors that I admire :)
Wow. That's nuts. Glad you made it through. There seems like a good short story in all of this. :)
I'm glad the good news balanced out the bad, because otherwise ... well, those pictures say it all.
OMGosh! That is incredible. Poor you! We live on a hill so we don't get floodds we get thunderstorm hits instead.
Floods are scary! But I loved this post - it marked an important moment in your writing journey! Thanks for sharing it again. :)
Yikes! That is a lot of rain. I'm glad everything turned out well in the end! Hope you're having a great week. :)
What a summer you had. Floods are horrible, but good news from a publisher. . . What could be better?
We get sooo much rain here in Washington. C'mon, book deal! Hee!
How exciting to read about your offer when it was brand spankin' new! I hope 2012 brings you lots of great news--but less rain. I don't want you having to do without your car again. :)
Thank you for your comments, everyone.
Fortunately, these flash floods are rare.
I'll be visiting your blogs soon. If you don't have a new post up for me to comment on, happy holidays and have a wonderful New Year.
Holy smokes, that's a lot of rain!
