2012 Debut Author Challenge

I was so pleased to see my debut novel on people’s 2011 reading lists. Thinking about it, it is exciting to read someone’s debut. It’s a landmark book in several aspects. It’s the author's entrance into the book world (not the literary world since some writers may have had short pieces published elsewhere). Also, it's the book that grabbed the attention of an agent and acquisitions editor—those two yeses a writer is dying to hear after x number of rejections.

With all that being said, I signed up for the 2012 Debut Author Challenge. I love looking at lists of books and wanting to read them. I tried to make a Goodreads montage for my list, but it doesn't pick up books that have no cover yet when I want my blog readers to see all my choices. Instead, I settled for the following widget. If you also want to sign up, you can find information here on The Story Siren's blog. There's also a Goodreads list you can pick and choose from. By the way, I'll probably add onto my list since I saw many more books I'd love to read.

What 2012 debut books are you excited about?

I haven't heard of all of these yet - I'll be checking these out. I read a lot of debuts in 2011 too, but I didn't keep track. :)

Oh my goodness, so many to choose from! There were a few on your list that I'm interested in, but at least three of them I hadn't heard of but the title alone is enough to make me check them out :-)

This is wonderful, Medea. I’m so happy to see a much needed niche filled with your book. No doubt you did a great job on your story, and the notices are well earned.
My debut MG is slated for a 2012 release, but no cover image yet to throw into your possible picks.

Isn't that a thrill to see? I'm happy to just to see my book on any list! Most of my blogger buddies have already released books, so can't think of any debuts.

I like reading debuts too! I think as a writer, it's easy to appreciate a debut. Thanks for posting your list. I'm going to check these out.

I read so many debut books in 2011. Awesome books. Especially your book, Medeia. That's the one that really got me excited. And Tess Hilmo's MG novel, With a Name Like Love. Those were my top two favorites. Besides my crit partner's book, Across The Universe.

*waving*

I will be loading up on books once I receive a Kindle Fire for Christmas. Not sure which ones yet. But I'll download at least a dozen to start off the year.

BUTTER has been adapted into a moie, right? It's a satire on American politics put seen through the lens of butter art, no?

Sarah – There are. That’s why I’m going to add to my list.

Paul – Same here.

Melissa – I can’t wait to devour Cracked.

Chanelle – For some reason I thought you were 2013. I’ll look for your novel.

Dezmond – Thanks so much for telling me. :)

Deb – I took awhile to peruse the list. I know I can’t read them all, but I’d like to try.

Mirka – I don’t see it on Goodreads yet. You can always sign up as an author and add it yourself.

Suze – Thank you. :)

Riya – You’re welcome.

Alex – That’s another thing. I have blogger buddy books stacked up in my TBR pile.

Old Kitty – Thank you.

Ghenet – It will be. And I look forward to adding more to my list.

Lynda – I’m glad I found it via someone else’s blog.

Kelly – Exactly. We appreciate them.

Jennifer – I’m glad you found other books that piqued your interest.

Karen – You’re welcome. :)

Robyn – Thank you. I’ll read Tess’s book and Beth’s was awesome.

Stephen – Ooh, Kindle Fire. I’m thinking of getting one.

Talli – I didn’t participate in last year’s challenge, which made no sense since I read so many debut novels.

Theresa – Happy reading to you, too.

Movies – No, this is a different novel. The summaries don’t match. But the one you mentioned sounds interesting.

Golden Eagle – I’m glad you found something you liked.

Karen – I love sharing my picks.

Sharon – Me, too. I love reading bloggy friends’ books.

I'm still so rooted in 2011 that I haven't given much thought to anything 2012 yet. But your post is inspiring me. I'll have to check out this Debut Author Challenge. What a great way to begin a year.

First of all, congratulations on seeing yourself on those lists! That is incredible and exciting!

Second, I don't know! I've been reading a lot of indie novels lately, most of them debut novels, and I'm enjoying it. I add them to my wishlist as I come across them. So many great ones!

I have a much smaller list so far! Love these choices. I agree, it's so fun to go through lists of books for future reading!
Nicely worded post! I too got so excited to see my own book on other's lists! So far, I read 34 2011 debuts this year. Much more than I thought!
